COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS

Our competitive program gives athletes the opportunity to achieve their personal goals and their individual potential as a competitive artistic gymnast at Interclub and Provincial competitions. This program involves a more enriched and intense gymnastics workout, training several times a week with a yearly commitment. More frequent training sessions provide the necessary repetition a gymnast requires to maintain this higher skill level and perfect their routines on each apparatus.

The Junior Olypmic Program is a 10 level program used in the USA. It was developed with the belief that all athletes, regardless of their potential, must have a solid foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely. The program allows the gymnast to advance at her own pace, competing in more than one level in a year, if she so chooses.

The JO Program is divided into three major segments; developmental, compulsory, and optional.
  1. The Developmental Levels 1 through 3 are used as a non-competitive and achievement-oriented program within a gym's development pre-team program, an introduction to the competitive program. Gymnasts can test in-club or at inter-club meets on equipment that accommodates the size of the gymnasts. Gymnasts must enter at Level 1, but may progress through the events and skills at different levels, although athletes should not skip any level.
  2. The second part consists of Compulsory Levels 4 and 5. Both of these levels are progressive in nature, building upon the skills required at the previous level. Competitive opportunities are provided up to and including Provincial Championships.
  3. The third segment is the Optional Levels 6-10. Levels 6, 7, 8, and 9 have difficulty restrictions, while Level 10 has no restrictions in the skill choice. Composition is evaluated at Levels 8, 9, and 10.

JUNIOR OLYMPIC DEVELOPMENTAL

1½ hour class twice a week for 38 weeks, for ages 4 – 7 working on foundation skills. Athletes will begin learning compulsory routines on each apparatus working towards competition.

XCEL

2‑hour class twice a week for the year (38 weeks), for ages 6+.  Xcel offers 5 levels of competition moving through bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond.

Xcel offers a wide variety of possible skills that leave the gymnast with an open range of routine possibilities.  Since there is no set skill list, coaches and gymnasts will create routines that fit the each gymnast.n Xcel program is much more relaxed and the training hours aren't as rigorous.

JUNIOR OLYMPIC 3+

3‑hour class twice a week for the year (38 weeks), for ages 7+ working on compulsory levels 3 - 6.

Levels 3-5 are referred to as "Compulsory", because the skills, routines and music are set in stone and must be performed as scripted. Levels 6 and up are called the "Optional" levels, since gymnasts and their coaches have more flexibility in the skills, routines and music selected.
